Brix Barbecue to Close After 8-Year Journey of Craft and Creativity in Fort Worth

Brix Barbecue to Close After 8-Year Journey of Craft and Creativity in Fort Worth

FORT WORTH, TX – A beloved name in Fort Worth’s barbecue scene is preparing to serve its final plate. Brix Barbecue, the South Main favorite known for brisket, boundary-pushing specials, and a rooftop dining vibe, will officially close its doors on August 17, marking the end of an 8-year culinary chapter.

From Airstream Dreams to Rooftop Success

Founded in 2017 by pitmaster Trevor Sales, Brix Barbecue started humbly as a pop-up, operating out of a vintage Airstream trailer on Bryan Avenue. The brisket was juicy, the housemade sausages were legendary, and the vibe? Pure Fort Worth grit with a dash of culinary edge.

Sales and his wife Katlynn quickly built a loyal following before eventually upgrading to a full brick-and-mortar location in 2023—a repurposed auto shop transformed into a sleek, two-story eatery with rooftop dining, a spacious patio, and dog-friendly charm.

Named after Trevor’s rescue dog, Brix, the restaurant quickly became a neighborhood anchor and a destination for food lovers across Texas.

What Made Brix Barbecue So Special

What truly set Brix apart was Sales’ fearless take on Texas barbecue. Yes, the classics like brisket, pulled pork, and smoked wings were there — and they were fantastic — but Brix never stopped evolving. Menu highlights included:

Brix Barbecue

  • Italian Brisket Sandwich – a smoky, beefy take on Chicago-style Italian beef
  • Texas Porchetta – pork belly stuffed with herbs, slow-smoked and melt-in-your-mouth
  • Funkytown Hot Chicken Sandwich – a bold, spicy favorite making its return for the final weeks
  • Pulled Pork Quesadillas, pork jowl tacos, and even steak frites

Perhaps most unique: brunch barbecue. From burnt-end pancakes to loaded breakfast burritos stuffed with brisket and eggs, Brix was the only local BBQ spot fully embracing the morning crowd.

The restaurant was even honored on Texas Monthly’s Top 50 Texas BBQ Joints list (honorable mention), placing it in elite company statewide.

Why They’re Closing

In a heartfelt message on social media, Trevor Sales shared the reason for the closure:

“While we love the BBQ World, we have decided it’s time to move on. As the restaurant landscape has changed, so have my passions, family life, career, and what’s important to me.”

Sales plans to continue his culinary journey through Tallow, a private dining concept. As for the restaurant space, he may lease or sell it.

Final Menu Highlights and Farewell Plans

In a gesture to loyal fans, Brix will be re-releasing many of its greatest hits in the final three weeks. Specials like the Funkytown Hot Chicken Sandwich are back now, with more crowd favorites on the way. Sales encouraged diners to come out and support the team:

“Please come out to support the staff these next 3 weeks. A lot of you guys are like family to myself and them.”

Author’s Reflection

As someone who’s waited in line on a sweltering afternoon just to grab a brisket plate at Brix, I can say this place didn’t just serve food — it created moments. Whether it was sipping local beer on the rooftop patio, trying one of Trevor’s wild weekly specials, or simply watching ribs get pulled fresh off the smoker, Brix was a true Fort Worth experience. It’ll be deeply missed.

What’s Next?

While Brix Barbecue is closing, its impact on Fort Worth’s food culture will last. Whether fans follow Sales to Tallow or wait to see who takes over the space, one thing is clear: Brix wasn’t just a barbecue joint — it was a culinary landmark.
